Helping Kids Get to College

Only 1 in 10 low-income students will graduate college. As a national network, KIPP is building public schools that are successful in helping students from educationally underserved communities develop the knowledge, skills, character and habits needed to succeed in college and the competitive world beyond.

KIPP NYC asked us to produce a simple infographic series that communicates in very simple terms the problem their organization is addressing, how KIPP’s model works, and the results they’re seeing.

We knew what was needed. Our challenge was we were working with very limited real estate. KIPP NYC wanted the infographics to live as online banners.

We created infographics that were composed of two elements: 1) the ‘hero’ spot that conveyed the primary communication – the problem, model and results – and 2) space that allowed us to illustrate the primary communication through an anecdote or example. The content was constructed to be modular and flexible so that, if needed, each could stand alone. But, when viewed collectively, each infographic told KIPP’s story clearly. The smaller "illustrative block" allowed for the potential rotation of different examples. Overall, the design was clean, plus we created whimsical icons, compatible with KIPP NYC’s existing visual identity. Importantly, our infographics maximized use of the limited space.
